SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK

The legendary Serengeti National park is the in Tanzania, is one of the seven Natural wonders in Africa and makes it the African paradise and the World Heritage Site for man and biosphere reserve. The park is very popular and well known due to the remained animal migration in the World which is the Great Wildebeest Migration.

The park delivered its name from the Masai language who were residing in the area before it was gazette to be a national park whereby they called the land “Siringiti” which means an Endless plain where you can clearly witness it around the central part of the Serengeti Seronera. It is the oldest park in Tanzania that covers the area of 17,473 Kilometer squires which makes it the second largest National Park in the Tanzania after the Ruaha National Park.

Here it is the birthplace of the Great wildebeest migration occurs, whereby during the dry season of June through July, the Migrants start their journey to Masai Mara Game Reserve and the Ngorongoro for the green pasture. The main migrants are wildebeest and Zebras while other antelopes escort the migrants but they do not cycle the whole migration. Other than the migrants and the escorts, the Serengeti vegetation accommodate mammals like Gazelles (Thomson and Grant), Topi, Buffalo, Eland, hartebeest, Impala, Klipspringer, common waterbuck, African Elephant, Bush Baby, Warthogs and the like, and the African wild cat, Lion, Cheetah, Leopard, hyena, Jackal and the like. Hence being in the Serengeti, expect to see the big five animals and the three among the African big cats (African Lion, Leopard and Cheetah). Nevertheless, on its western corridor, Serengeti has the Gurumeti River with good number of the Nile crocodile and other reptiles who obtain their abundant food during the river crossing of the wildebeest on their way to the Masai Mara in Kenya.
